NY Day 2

Day 2 was spent just relaxing around Aunt Alice's house. We also went to Aunt Carol's house for a bit as well as North Country Store.

We played a quick game of kickball before supper.

All of my cousins have very cute kids!

Aaliyah doing dishes with Grandma!

We took some pictures before church:

After church, we went back to Joe & Bernice's to sing, a Virkler family tradition!

Day 3 coming soon!

Still here...barely

Quick Update:
Sorry for the lack of posts. I had planned to have the rest of my NY trip up by now, but things don't always go as planned. I am currently battling pneumonia, so my current doctor's orders are to do very little, preferably nothing except to get up to drink water. Yep, I'm on bed rest. I also cannot return to work for 11 days. So although I'm not doing much, blogging is in the back of my mind. When I'm feeling better, or at least up to facing the pictures, then I'll return.

NY Day 1

Last week I spent a few days in New York visiting family. My dad and brothers stayed the whole week, but I was only able to go from Tuesday thru Thursday. Still had a blast though!

When we first got in town, I stopped and put some flowers on Grandma's grave. I don't get to do it much because we live so far away.

We hung out for the afternoon, and then went to the Lewis County Fair that evening.

While at the fair, everyone kept talking about how we had to get funnel cakes to eat while we watched the parade. I had never heard of them, but got the impression that they were good, and they definitely were! They are very similar to fried dough.

My cousin and I tried so hard to get a picture of these 4 men, but in every picture, someone wasn't smiling or was doing something silly. I think this one is the best:

NY is the only place I go and see my last name everywhere!

This next picture is really interesting. One part of the cloud is a pure white, and the other is gray.

It kept getting darker and darker, but never rained!

My cousin is the second from the left, holding the American flag.

This next picture is my dad and I holding the "twins." These two munchkins were born the same day, at the same minute, just in two different states. Plus, they are first cousins!

Then we watched the fireworks:

Day 2 coming soon!

Quote of the Day

Remember you don't always have control over what happens, but you do have control over what you do with the experience.

Precious Memories

Today would have been Grandma's 93rd birthday.

 I am so thankful that our entire family was able to gather for Grandma's 90th birthday, just a few months before she passed away. We have many pictures, videos and memories from that weekend together, and its at a time like this when I go back and revisit that weekend and remember all of those precious memories.

"Precious mem'ries, unseen angels, Sent from somewhere to my soul;
How they linger, ever near me, And the sacred past unfold.

In the stillness of the midnight, Echoes from the past I hear;
Old-time singing, gladness bringing, From that lovely land somewhere.

As I travel on life's pathway, Know not what the years may hold,
As I ponder, hope grows fonder; Precious mem'ries flood my soul.

Precious mem'ries, how they linger, How they ever flood my soul,
In the stillness of the midnight, Precious, sacred scenes unfold."
