Greg Caron

I'm sure that those of you that live here in Ellington, CT have already heard about Greg Caron. But for those of you who haven't, here's a little background information. While serving his second tour in Afghanistan, Greg lost both of his legs, a finger, received shrapnel to the right side of his body, and has a broken collar bone, all from an IED. Although he is back in the states for recovery, he will not be able to return to his hometown here in Ellington for at least 6 months. This family is going to need a lot of financial support. Anyone wanting to donate can send a check (made payable to The Greg Caron Family Fund) to :
The Greg Caron Family Fund

This video was created for Greg from our town. It is very touching and brought tears to my eyes.

Let's remember to pray for not only this family, but for all of our military families.

Verse of the Day

Thanksgiving Pictures

For Thanksgiving, we went to Uncle Len & Aunt Deb's house. I remembered to bring my camera, but forgot to take pictures! I only got a few, so I figured I'd share them anyway.

Here is the adult's table:

A close up:

And a close up of my plate:

Kayla made the pilgrim hats on each plate and they were very delicious!

This was the centerpiece; I thought it was pretty.

That's all I got!

New York

This past weekend, we went to NY to visit family. U. Andy & A. Becky were there from Iowa, so we got to see everyone again!

Sam, Amanda & I drove up on Friday night.
We got there about 11:15 PM and someone was up and waiting for us!
So, we had a little fun and wrapped her up like a mummy!

We made chocolates on Saturday.

First, you make the filling:

Then you shape the filling into different shapes, depending on the flavor.

No names mentioned, but somebody had a little fun! :)
and no, it wasn't me!

After dinner, we made the chocolate sauce and started dipping them:

First you have to cut up the wax:

We had lots of help dipping!

Aunt Alice turned 70 back in October, so we surprised her with a cake and her gift.

See this little cutie?

That's Miss Ella Rose, one of the latest additions to the Virkler family!
I don't think there was a single moment the whole weekend where she wasn't being held!

Overall, great weekend!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!

This week flew by; must be because I had the week off from work.
Either way, Thanksgiving has arrived! And with it, the cold weather!

I would love to be sitting on these rocks right now:

Watching this:

And this:

And this:
But I can't.

Trust Him

Trust Him
Trust Him when dark clouds surround.
Trust Him when fearful doubts abound.
Trust Him when your strength may fail.
Trust Him when anxious thoughts assail.
Trust Him when His name you are barely able to call.
Trust Him when to simply trust Him is the hardest thing of all.

4 Weeks!

4 weeks of classes left! Then 1 week of finals. Even though time is flying by, it also feels like it's never going to end! It's that time of the semester when Professor's like to add in last minute projects/papers/exams, etc. Talk about stressful! Although I have full confidence that everything will be fine. Plus, the next 4 weeks are going to fly by and I can't wait for Winter break! One full month of NO school!!

Veteran's Day

In honor of Veteran's Day, I thought I would post a few poems I came across.

Remember
by Brittany Vigoreaux

American soldiers sacrifice so much,
All for the freedom of our country.
Leaving their families and heading off to war,
Not knowing what the future holds.

Working day and night
Determined to stay strong,
Watching friends be killed every day
Letters from home inspiring them to keep fighting.

So little is given to them
Although there is little to do,
For those who have died in war
We can still remember.

Remember all the men who have died.
Remember all the battles fought.
Remember all the tears families cried.
Remember it was freedom the soldiers brought.

To this very day soldiers are under-appreciated
Veterans Day is the day
For the dead, living, and fighting soldiers
To be remembered.

They Did Their Share
by Joanna Fuchs

On Veteran's Day we honor
Soldiers who protect our nation.
For their service as our warriors,
They deserve our admiration.

Some of them were drafted;
Some were volunteers;
For some it was just yesterday;
For some it's been many years.

In the jungle or the desert,
On land or on the sea,
They did whatever was assigned
To produce a victory.

Some came back; some didn't.
They defended us everywhere.
Some saw combat; some rode a desk;
All of them did their share.

Not matter what the duty,
For low pay and little glory,
These soldiers gave up normal lives,
For duties mundane and gory.

Let every Veteran be honored;
Don't let politics get in the way.
Without them, freedom would have died;
What they did, we can't repay.

We owe so much to them,
Who kept us safe from terror,
So when we see a uniform,
Let's say "thank you" to every wearer.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to end with this:

This is my cousin, Levi, who is currently in the
U.S. Military fighting for our freedom.

This photo (below) of me and Levi was taken a few years ago at Christmas.

This was the only picture I could find of him in uniform.
When I find my others, I'll post them too.

Thank you Levi! We love you and are praying for you!

Happy 50th Birthday!

Today is my dad's 50th birthday!

We surprised him on Sunday. He thought that just our family was going out to eat, but little did he know, it was my mom's whole side of the family ready to surprise him! Everyone was able to come except for my cousin Levi. We went to Bertucci's; it was delicious and the staff/management did an amazing job helping us pull it off!

Here are the first two pictures I got of him walking in. (Sorry, they are really blurry but they show his surprised face! )

The first few moments!

Waiting on his chair was a cane with a horn on it.
It also had a little sign that says "Caution! Old Geezer!"

These next pictures are just random pictures.

Gramp and Gram:

Me with my only girl cousin's on my mom's side!

Me and my sister!

Dad and Mom:

Then it was time for cake! We ordered a sheet cake from Big Y, and the manager allowed us to put it in the fridge until we were ready for it! I don't think I can say it enough, the management/staff was amazing!

We even had coordinating plates for dessert!

Lastly, a picture of me and dad:

Happy 50th birthday Dad! Love you!
