Well, we still have a lot of snow around here. Too much if you ask me. But, I must admit, I have been loving all the pretty sunsets lately. I see the orange glow, and I run to the backyard to grab a picture. So here's a few. I didn't want to post too many cause they are all the same view! :)

Blizzard Colbie & Influenza A
Last week was a somewhat eventful week. Monday morning, I woke up with a head cold. I had no symptoms on Sunday, just woke up like that on Monday. I went to school and work, but ended up being sent home early from work because my super nice boss knew I wasn't feeling well. As I was leaving work, it started snowing. It snowed all night and all day Tuesday. Meanwhile, I was knitting non-stop as I was trying to finish this hat!
Since dad was still very sore from his accident, he was told that he couldn't do any shoveling! Well, that left us kids with the task. So we bundled up and out we went!
So much snow! We ended up with 15" at our house.
Kiwi loves the snow!
Meanwhile, by Tuesday afternoon/evening, I was really not feeling good. In fact, I was feeling terrible. I took my temperature and it was 102*. I am prone to having pneumonia, so I had mom listen to my lungs, thinking that was what was wrong. However, she said they were clear. I went to bed with not much thought about it.
The next morning, mom suggested I go to the doctor, just to get checked out. Now, I was quite surprised she suggested this, usually she is the one to say that it will eventually go away. I called the doc and they were able to squeeze me in that afternoon. So I went, and once I was in a room, the nurse came in and said she wanted to do a flu swab. She did, and told me that they usually take about 15 mins for the results to show, and that the dr wouldn't be in until after that. I am not even kidding, the dr came in like 3 minutes later. She walked in and all she said was "You have the flu. There is absolutely no doubt about it." I was a little shocked. I've never had the flu, and I did get the flu shot. Apparently, Influenza A, which is the most severe type of the flu, is not covered by the flu shot!
I was sent home with instructions that I could not leave my house until Tuesday (tomorrow!). So it's been a very long week. I haven't been able to sleep at night, so I've been getting up to knit by the light of our pellet stove!
All the snow did make for some pretty sunsets the past few days!
I finally started feeling better this past Saturday. Tomorrow I will be able to leave the house! I am definitely not 100% better, but I'm not stuck on the couch either! I've never had the flu before, and I was very surprised with how weak I became. So far, no one else in my family has any symptoms!

FO: Regular Guy Beanie (for dad!)
I knitted dad a hat since he has no hair and his head gets cold :)
Good thing I finished it right before we went to NY last weekend. It was cold and snowy up there and he needed it!

New York
This past weekend, we went to NY to visit family and to serve lunch in church on Sunday.
We got to meet the newest little Virkler, Andrew Joseph, born to my cousin Joe and his wife Bernice.
They have lots of snow already. But then again, they have snow all winter long. It never goes away.
Saturday we made and dipped chocolates, which is a family tradition. Here they are ready for dipping.
Me and dad, sporting the hat I made him (blog post coming soon)!
I'm so glad that Bethany came with me for the weekend!

Snowball Attack
I came home one day to find this in the fridge:
Mom was going out to dinner with her sister's that night. Dad and Aaron were waiting patiently for her to get out of the shower and get ready to go. Here's what happened:
Perfect timing!!

Winter Storm Alfred - More Pictures
Here are more pictures from Winter Storm Alfred,
taken by my brother Aaron.
I realize this next picture is a little blurry, but I wanted to post it.
The next 3 go in order.
This next picture was taken looking out the front window of my parent's house. The tree across the road was on fire!
This next picture is of the house next to my parents.
Their front tree fell right onto the car!
It's very cold in my parent's house; they have been without power since Saturday evening. Tonight, I made soup at my apartment and brought it over for supper. Everyone seemed nice and cozy under their piles of blankets, including the kitten!
