National Day of Prayer - 5/7/15

Today is the National Day of Prayer. A day, designated by the U.S. Congress, for all people in America, no matter what religion, to pray to God for our country and its leaders. As we are instructed in the Bible to pray for those in authority, may we be encouraged to pray for them not only today, but everyday.

Rainy Days

I love rainy days. Because they bring the sound of rain. The sound of comfort; the sound of peace. A peace of knowing that all is well.

My Current Knitting Project

What I'm currently knitting:

You can't tell, but they will be dresses for two very special twin girls! I am done with one, and almost halfway done with the second one!

I pick up my knitting at least once a day. Sometimes I just need to have quiet time to sit and knit, even if it is only for 10 minutes. And yes, I knit during lectures :) It keeps me off my phone, and does actually help me focus :)

Blizzard Colbie & Influenza A

Last week was a somewhat eventful week. Monday morning, I woke up with a head cold. I had no symptoms on Sunday, just woke up like that on Monday. I went to school and work, but ended up being sent home early from work because my super nice boss knew I wasn't feeling well. As I was leaving work, it started snowing. It snowed all night and all day Tuesday. Meanwhile, I was knitting non-stop as I was trying to finish this hat!

Since dad was still very sore from his accident, he was told that he couldn't do any shoveling! Well, that left us kids with the task. So we bundled up and out we went!

So much snow! We ended up with 15" at our house.

Kiwi loves the snow!

Meanwhile, by Tuesday afternoon/evening, I was really not feeling good. In fact, I was feeling terrible. I took my temperature and it was 102*. I am prone to having pneumonia, so I had mom listen to my lungs, thinking that was what was wrong. However, she said they were clear. I went to bed with not much thought about it.

The next morning, mom suggested I go to the doctor, just to get checked out. Now, I was quite surprised she suggested this, usually she is the one to say that it will eventually go away. I called the doc and they were able to squeeze me in that afternoon. So I went, and once I was in a room, the nurse came in and said she wanted to do a flu swab. She did, and told me that they usually take about 15 mins for the results to show, and that the dr wouldn't be in until after that. I am not even kidding, the dr came in like 3 minutes later. She walked in and all she said was "You have the flu. There is absolutely no doubt about it." I was a little shocked. I've never had the flu, and I did get the flu shot. Apparently, Influenza A, which is the most severe type of the flu, is not covered by the flu shot!

I was sent home with instructions that I could not leave my house until Tuesday (tomorrow!). So it's been a very long week. I haven't been able to sleep at night, so I've been getting up to knit by the light of our pellet stove!

All the snow did make for some pretty sunsets the past few days!

I finally started feeling better this past Saturday. Tomorrow I will be able to leave the house! I am definitely not 100% better, but I'm not stuck on the couch either! I've never had the flu before, and I was very surprised with how weak I became. So far, no one else in my family has any symptoms!

FO: Stethoscope Cozy

I knitted this cute little stethoscope cozy for my sister. She's in her senior year of nursing school, so it was a surprise "great job so far and keep up the good work" gift.

I think she likes it!

The Big E

I can't believe it's already October! Three weeks ago, Aaron marched with the high school band at the Big E for Connecticut Day. So mom and dad and I went up for the afternoon to watch him march. We walked around for awhile and then came home. Of course, the only pictures I took were of the parade!

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend, my uncle and aunt came down to visit from New York.

Saturday, we went on a day trip down to the shore. Our first stop was Mystic Aquarium.

Here's mom and dad on the Titanic:

Hanging with the penguins:

Next we went over to the U.S. Naval Submarine Base where we got to tour the USS Nautilus. If you live in the area, I would totally recommend this!

Then we went over to Harkness to enjoy the shore a little bit.

And here we all are at dinner Sunday night:

Summer & School Update

Well, this is it. The first day of the last year of college. I'm excited and ready for the year to be done! Just thought I'd share a few pictures.

Here's Eliza, looking all pretty and ready to go to the 4H fair a few weeks ago!

I've been trying really hard to get this cowl finished. I am almost done, just a few more rows!

Kiwi. This kitty loves to snuggle. Here she is squished between my leg and the arm of the couch.

On the way to her first vet appointment. So glad Aaron buckled her in :)

This kitty also climbs anything. Here she is making her way up the curtains in the living room!

And she made it!
